The Society for the Encouragement of the Arts (seARTS) Wearable Art Group, commemorating its 10th year, is presenting its fourth runway event. This event is a benefit for seARTS and funds its many programs and community activities for a two year period.
Celebrate Wearable Art is multi-faceted. At its core, it provides an opportunity for established artisans to show their work in an inspiring setting on a live model. At the same time we welcome “makers” from all genres of art to expand their creative palate to showcase something wearable. Here’s what you can expect on Sunday, October 1.
Doors Open at 2PM for Exclusive Shopping for beautiful, hand-made jewelry, clothing, & accessories created by carefully selected artisans. While you are shopping, enjoy fabulous networking, light appetizers by Vinwood Catering, and a cash bar with the backdrop of Gloucester’s working waterfront.
Runway Event starts at 3:45, resenting 50+ exquisite fashion and art wearable designs come to life on the CWA runway! Our show focuses on the creativity and construction of each piece. The show is professionally presented by an Emcee who brings the artistic process to life while the pieces are being modeled. Selling halts during the runway shows and picks up afterward until 6PM.
Special Features Each year, the creative team tries something new. In 2015, there was a special vest auction. In 2017, we will present special runway designs that can be acquired via a silent auction!
Seating The runway spans the center of the room from Rogers Street toward the Harbor. The exhibiting artists surround the room. There are a limited number of tables of ten (10) on each side of the runway. Behind the tables of ten will be smaller round tables for five (5). Based on past experience, the large tables will sell out quickly. Tables of five will be assigned on a first come-first serve basis but early ticket sales will be closer to the runway.
I loved the diversity of what was modeled. You never knew what might be coming next and that was half the fun. [2015 attendee]
“Experiencing the creativity and expression of these modern artists through textile, floral design and reclaimed materials is exciting. Our place in history is woven into this rich and storytelling legacy. “Wearable Art” is a foreign affair using a language all its own with dialects of fabric, flowers, and everyday items that translates into an experience which speaks to our esthetic and, hopefully, puts a smile on our face.”
